The Physics of an Electric Car Essay - 1718 Words

The Physics of an Electric Car Cannon returns home from work on an average day. He gets his things and trudges into the house, thinking about the events of the day. He relaxes for the evening, thinking about the good things in life. He is lucky that he has a good job, a nice house, and a nice car. But wait, it feels like he forgot something today. His mind races, did he forget a project at work? He couldn’t have, he works so hard to keep up. Not thinking of what he forgot, Cannon stumbles to bed for much needed rest. About three o’clock, Cannon shoots out of bed. He remembered†¦ He forgot to plug in his car. Will there be enough power in the batteries to get him to work? How in the world does that car work anyway? During the†¦show more content†¦Our team took an old pickup and converted it to electric power. We used 16, 6 volt deep-cycle lead acid batteries for our power source. The batteries were wired in a series to produce 96 volts. These were placed in special built boxes under the bed of the pickup. The reason for this is the resistance in the wires caused heat. Exposure to the air helped to dissipate that heat due to the electric resistance in the wires between batteries. Because the batteries were wired in a series, the end voltage added to 96 volts, enough to power our motor. This is quite a bit of electric energy. Another two lead-acid, 12-volt car batteries were installed in our pickup. These batteries are wired in a parallel circuit. These batteries are the power supply for things like the radio, windshield wipers, heaters and lights. These batteries have a drain on them also, and it is a hazard to let them run out while driving. A lead-acid battery is â€Å"†¦made by putting lead and lead oxide plates (known as electrodes) into dilute sulfuric acid (the electrolyte). A 12-volt car battery is made by connecting six (2 volt systems) of these together† (Kirkpatrick, 498). These batteries can be recharged. To recharge them, a current is run backwards through the battery pack to reverse the chemical reaction, replenishing the electric energy. The 96 volts produced by the battery pack is then routed throughShow MoreRelatedA Report On Mass Transport Systems Essay985 Words   |  4 Pagesemissions are from highway vehicles and over 50% are from cars and light trucks.3There are 28% of energy used for transportation in the U.S..4 More efforts should be put to reduce the transportation dependency on fossil fuel. China’s Exchange Rate Regime Reform

Question: Describe about the Chinas Exchange Rate Regime Reform? Answer: Chinese Economy- A Move from Investment Based Growth to Consumer Based Growth Summary: Every economy around the world is looking for growth and they try to achieve the productive resources that the country possesses and taking steps according to the options available and the state of technology of the nation. The growth of an economy generally is achieved in the three modes namely investment based growth where country can through investing in capital goods and capital markets, consumer based growth which means investment of resources in areas of government and household consumption as well and finally growth led from the export led growth within the country. Talking about the Chinese economy which had been famous for the investment based growth had led to a great growth in the last decade. The Chinese economy had a great boost in the years after 2001 through investment led activities as it made the highest contribution in the growth of the economy. But the trend completely changed in the past 5 years where the investment led growth has a lower contribution in the growth of the Chinese economy. The Chinese economy then understood that there is a possible scope of growth only in the consumption sector as the economy started facing constraints due to the unavailability of important sources of production that are required in the investment led sectors of the economy. So it could be said that at this present scenario the investment in agriculture and service would be preferred over the investment in the real estate and manufacturing sector of the country. (Cuia*, 2015) Thus the unallocated and unutilized resources of the economy can be only utilized if the company makes a strategy to move toward the consumption led growth in the near future(Il Houng Lee, 2013) 1: The issue of misallocation of resources had been dealt in the Economic Work Conference where this problem was raised and outcome was decided to be that investments needs to be properly allocated in the areas where the production possibilities are greater and the global economy slow down should be accounted into before framing the economic decisions of the county and its economy. The country like China is highly dependent on exports and so its investment based sector also is highly affected due to the slowdown of the global economy. This problem here highlights the fact that there should be change in strategy so the economic resources are fully utilized and the Production possibilities can move towards the reduction of the unallocated resources of the country as a whole. The concept of PPC implies here as when the resources are non allocate fully there is a under utilization of resources and it needs to be employed on the other available options for the economy so that the point of allocation does not lie inside the curve but lie on the curve at least due to the fuller use of the resources by the country. The PPF helps in determining the allocation of resources in a best possible manner among the output options to provide better employment of resources in the economy.(Elvis Picardo, 2013) 2: In the diagram above it is has been shown that resources of the country are underutilized as the point on the PPF is lying inside the curve which shows that there is a scope of usage of resources but the company is not able to utilize it due to the lack of opportunities of growth in the investment sector. The company is to balance the resources by allocating it to the consumption based growth sector that means that there is a scope that the company will be able to use the resources very well and help the country to analyze the resources in a positive manner so that the growth could be achieved. (CNN, 2014) As shown in the other part of the diagram that the economy is able to utilize the resources in a better manner by the reason of the investment of the unused resources in the consumer based sector due to the global slowdown and badly affected Chinese economy. (Fleisher, 2012) The proper diversion of resources wood help the Chinese economy to boost with great power and support for the country and this would help the country to adapt to the changes as it would provide proper allocation of resources and would help lower the unemployment rates and would be able to solve the problem of choice for the economy as a whole. The change in the economic circumstances would led to the increase in the countrys development and the change in the frontier of the country for the upcoming times as presented here under.(Das, 2014) 3: The Chinese economy has faced the problem due to the attitude towards the investment growth of the country and focused on the consumption based growth of the country had changed many things as this was demanded by the Chinese economy. When the time o f economic slowdown came it was evident that the Chinese government faced challenges and the only way to create a win - win situation was to shift the strategy of the country to the consumer expenditure based growth in the long run. The Chinese economy also witnessed changes as soon it shifted to this consumption based growth as positive results were shown when more than 55% of the total growth was from them only. The path of China was led by the fall in the growth due to the investment functions that it had belief on but the efficiency was improved when the company shifted to other areas of resource where it handled them very nicely. The economy had changed a lot from its end by using the excess investment as a mode to add value to t he future good and service of the company as a whole. The country experienced a better GDP growth in the first year of deciding in solving the economic problem. The excess of money when investment in the sector of household had created the trust of people that China can also survive when the world economy is facing problems. The Role of Nato and the Warsaw Pact in the Cold War free essay sample

Account for the foundation of NATO and the Warsaw Pact and assess their importance in the development of the cold war. Tensions had long been brewing between the eastern bloc and its frontrunner and big brother, The Soviet Union and the western powers primarily led by the United States of America. Fissures had appeared between the old allies over Germany, Korea as well as ideological, diplomatic and military operations. These culminated in the final divide between east and west, Communism and Capitalism, international revolution and economic interest; this divide was formalized through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO and the later formation of the Warsaw Pact in the east. This essay will examine the roles of both NATO and the Warsaw pact in concurrence with other events unfolding at the time, contributing to the development of the early Cold War. The West had long seen Soviet action as mere antagonism, coupled with what the West viewed the establishment of new communist states as Soviet expansionism. We will write a custom essay sample on The Role of Nato and the Warsaw Pact in the Cold War or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The Western powers sought to combat this through the establishment of NATO – which united the member states in a common defensive goal. This was of course perceived as a direct threat by the Soviet Union, who did attempt to join in 1954 but were rejected on the basis that â€Å"they aim to subvert NATO†. Exclusion, if anything indicated that the Soviet Union which had applied vowing that they would be necessary in maintaining world peace were indeed the enemies which NATO feared. Furthermore the NATO’s militarization and establishment of army bases and regiments alongside the eastern border or the â€Å"Iron Curtain† as Winston Churchill had decried it and the introduction of West Germany into NATO 1955. These factors indicated strongly to the USSR and its allies that NATO was indeed only a tool designed against the Soviet Union. NATO also heavily indicated in their speeches and actions that they would not stand down if an open conflict against the USSR would ensue. Several historians argue that US economic interest was also intertwined in the actions undertaken by NATO. The US which had successfully harnessed and extricated itself from the devastating Depression from the 30s, only through WWII and the industry and alleviations of unemployment which it brought with it. Saw what was to became a massive influx of both troops and military arsenal back to the US which would both lead to unemployment for the troops and economic stagnation to the at the ime most lucrative industries, which were the weapons industries. Later it has been proven that military and weapons industry lobbyists heavily engaged with the U. S government. Some argue therefore that the Cold War was set up by the United States in order to keep unemployment down, keep weapons selling through constant fear mongering and unify the United States and Europe against a common foe. This argument purports that the U. S antagonism in NATO and abroad may have played a big part in escalating tensions, furthering the Cold War. The Warsaw Pact, which was formed in 1955 as a direct response to the rejection of the Soviet Union from NATO was similarly a military alliance. The goal was not only to amalgamate the Eastern Bloc but also to establish beneficial trade agreements, allowing for a more free system of trade. The Warsaw pact in concoction with the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON) set the East as a viable opponent both militarily and economically. This furthered the Cold War as the both the militarization and economic developments posed a threat to the West. Also the proliferation of nuclear warheads amongst both these alliances created a tense climate, as evident in the Cuban missile Crisis of 1962. Yet the development of the Cold War was also accelerated by a multitude of other factors, such as several diplomatic failings. General ideological differences fueled a political feud between the nations and domestic problems accelerated further. NATO and the Warsaw pact also lacked much of the unity needed for strong military alliances, with France leaving NATO in 1958 and the several attempts of Eastern Bloc nations to leave the Warsaw pact. In conclusion the roles of the two military alliances played an incremental role in the overall development of the Cold War. Such as the militarization and the policy of detente enforced by NATO to maintain military superiority over the belligerents in the Warsaw Pact; the Warsaw pact had a similar policy and therefore these policies increased the speed of the arms race and fueled militarization.
